LG Optimus G2 rumoured to have 5 2 inch display and optical image stabilisation
More LG Optimus G2 specification rumours have emerged, including the suggestion that the super-slim smartphone will come with a larger-than-expect display and some advanced camera tech.
Greek website Techblog carries the reports the that LG Optimus G2 will exceed the 5-inch display size most had expected. According to slightly questionable "unconfirmed information," the forthcoming smartphone will come with a 5.2-inch 1080p LCD IPS screen.
Its suggested that the phones extremely small bezel means that a slight increase in screen size is possible without making the phones body any bigger.
Another interesting new spec rumour from the same source is that the LG Optimus G2s 13-megapixel camera will feature optical image stabilisation (OIS). This is a feature thats only just starting to make its way into phones, allowing for steadier shots and videos and opening up the potential for markedly superior low light shots.
Its thanks to OIS that the Nokia Lumia 920 and the HTC One are such strong performers in low light conditions.
Otherwise, we know from a leaked promotional video and earlier rumours that the LG G2 will feature an unusual rear-mounted volume control setup. This is apparently in reaction to the fact that the phone will be extremely thin.
We also know for a fact that the LG Optimus G2 will be powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 800 CPU. LG and Qualcomm issued a joint statement revealing as much last month.

iPhone 6 sapphire glass display teased by leaked Apple patent
Apple’s investment in sapphire glass is well documented, but now leaked patents have suggested that the Cupertino-based company could be about to bestow the iPhone 6 with a sapphire glass display.

With Apple reportedly investing £350 million in the mass production of the resilient glass materials, latest reports have suggested the iPhone 6 could launch with a full sapphire glass display, not simply a sapphire protected Touch ID home button and camera lens as previously thought.
Entitled ‘Sapphire Window’, the Apple patent details how the company intends to grow the hardened material for use on portable electronic devices, explaining how it will harvest the sapphire glass into polished wafers which can then be cut into small, smartphone size windows.
However, due to the elements which give Sapphire glass panels their added reinforcement, the technology cannot be manufactured using traditional glass panel production methods.
According to one of Apple’s patents, the company has revealed that is could potentially use lasers to cut iPhone size sapphire glass panels in a bid to increase yield rates.
With Apple’s Sapphire Window patent having originally been filed back in 2012, the company’s product plans precede details that surfaced earlier this week that Apple has increased its partnership with sapphire manufacturer GT Advanced Technologies.
According to the latest reports, Apple is to increase production through a new US-based manufacturing facility which is expected to begin work next month.
Widely expected to launch this autumn with a new, larger 4.7-inch display, the iPhone 6 will go head-to-head with the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S5 for the crown of smartphone supremacy.

iPad mini 2 release date may be pushed back down to Retina display
The iPad mini 2 may be delayed if Apple adopts a Retina-style screen for the small tablet, according to fresh reports.
Apple has nailed down exactly what the iPad 5 will be like, but has not yet decided whether to update the iPad mini with a Retina screen, according to DigiTimes.
The site writes that if Apple decides to use a high pixel density screen, the iPad mini 2 is likely to be delayed until “the end of the fourth quarter” – as opposed to being released alongside the iPad 5 in September.
DigiTimes appears certain that the iPad 5 will land in September, citing sourced “from the upstream supply chain”.
As reported elsewhere, the site writes that the full-size iPad will feature a slimmed-down screen bezel, as well as improved battery life.
All these nuggets come with a pretty serious caveat – they come from DigiTimes. The site is one of the most Apple notorious rumour-pedlars on the internet, and many of its predications and assertions turn out to be less than entirely accurate.
In June 2013, NPD DisplaySearch analyst Richard Shim claimed that a Retina version of the 7.9-inch tablet will not arrive until 2014.
However, further conflicting reports are not hard to find. Also in June 2013, ETNews reported that Samsung would produce the display panels for Apple’s 2013 tablets, including a Retina iPad mini 2 screen.
The claimed panel is a 7.9-inch screen like the current model, but has a resolution of 2,048 x 1,536 pixels rather than 1,024 x 768.
This is the same resolution as the iPad 4, which would give the iPad mini 2 an impressive pixel density of 324 ppi.
That is roughly the same density as the iPhone 5, although pixel density in tablets tends to be far lower than that of the top mobile phones.
