Crashed McLaren F1 is the saddest way to see its beautiful underbody
Friends, this is why we cant have nice things. A McLaren F1 was flipped down an embankment in Italy yesterday, and this video of the crashs aftermath is about as sad as when Old Yeller was shot.
According to Italys La Nazione, this one-off, red-on-white F1 was crashed during a four-F1 tour between the towns of Saline di Volterra and Pomarance in the province of Pisa. Its unclear what caused the driver to lose control and invert our British hero on a grassy hill, although as this is a McLaren F1, we wouldnt be remotely surprised if speed ended up being a factor.
YouTuber Marchettino, an Autoblog reader and well-known source of videos from Ferraris Fiorano test track, was on the scene to capture the video available below. The footage shows the McLaren accelerating away, only to cut away to the aftermath of the wreck. Emergency personnel were tasked with righting the stricken hypercar, a process that was accompanied by the cringe-worthy cracking of its Peter Stevens-designed bodywork. At least they had the decency to cover the crumpled Brit with its fitted black cover as they loaded it onto a flatbed, a fitting yet somehow disturbing visual.
According to reports, the driver and passenger were airlifted from the scene with non-lethal injuries, and both are recovering in a hospital. Given the rising worth and rarity of F1s, despite the extensive damage in evidence, we reckon that this wont be the last the world sees of this special car. Take a look below to view the video.

Report Chinese teen runs away from home to try and stop parents from buying Japanese car
Current relations between Japan and China could be described with a number of different words, none of which have particularly good connotations â€" terse, hostile, threatening and tense would all fit the bill. The reasoning for the general sense of dislike between the two nations isnt really for these pages (look up the Senkaku Islands or Japans rule of China in World War II if you want a primer), but its effect on their respective populace and their car-buying habits is right in our wheelhouse.
This news of a Chinese teen running away from home because her parents were planning to buy a Honda is one of a number of auto-related examples of how tense Sino-Japanese relations are. The 14-year-old girl felt that her parents purchase of a Japanese car would be "helping the enemy with money from our own pockets," according to a recent story posted on the website RocketNews24. The girl left for three days until her parents finally relented and agreed not to buy the car.
According to the RocketNews24, Chinese commenters are supportive of the girls nationalism, with some continuing to support a boycott of Japanese products in the worlds most heavily populated country.

Yep Lindsay Lohan is suing Rockstar Games over Grand Theft Auto V likeness w video
Well, its official. We will have a courtroom battle between fallen starlet Lindsay Lohan and Rockstar Games, maker of the infamous Grand Theft Auto series. We last reported on the Lohan/Rockstar case back in December, when rumors were swirling that the then-27-year-old would sue the video game publisher.
In the suit, LiLo alleges that Rockstar and Take-Two Interactive used her likeness for one of the games non-playable characters, Lacey Jonas, without permission. Lohan also cited an image on the games cover in her suit.
"The portraits of the Plaintiff (Lohan) incorporated her image, likeness, clothing, outfits, Plaintiffs clothing line products, ensemble in the form of hats, hair style, sunglasses, jean shorts worn by the Plaintiff that were for sale to the public at least two years" the suit, obtained by Forbes, reads.
Its unclear just how much money Lohan will be seeking in her suit. Forbes reached out to the Digital Media Law Project, which indicates that the Mean Girls star doesnt really have a leg to stand on.
"As a general matter, you will not be held liable for using someones name or likeness in a creative, entertaining, or artistic work that is transformative, meaning that you add some substantial creative element over and above the mere depiction of the person. In other words, the First Amendment ordinarily protects you if you use someones name or likeness to create something new that is recognizably your own, rather than something that just evokes and exploits the persons identity." the DMLP said.
Unless Lohan can prove that Rockstar blatantly ripped off her image for GTA, a series thats notorious for its parodies, it doesnt seem like this case will have much traction. In any case, feel free to scroll down below for a video from TMZ discussing the issue from a few months back.

Leno meets the nicest people on his bored out Honda CB750
Jay Lenos Garage is back to its tried-and-true formula this week with Jay taking a close look at a seriously cool vehicle with a guest. This time he invites in Adam Gaspic from Gasser Custom to take a look at a highly customized 1975 Honda CB750.
The bike is really an amalgam of styles from different eras and various Honda parts. Its looks are inspired by 50s hot rods with its white-wall tires and satin, metallic fuel tank, but there is a little British café racer in there, as well. A digital instrument panel and LED turn signals lend an air of modernity to it, too. Mechanically, the bike rides on a modified 75 frame with the front and rear suspension from an 80s Honda. However, the pièce de résistance is its engine, bored out to 836cc with additional head work and a custom exhaust.
Once on the road, the bike really sings. It sounds just the way a classic Japanese motorcycle should with a mix of whine at high-revs with rumble down low. A cycle that mixes this many styles should probably be a mess, but this fuses it all together perfectly. Scroll down to take a look at this motorcycle mixing classic and modern in Jay Lenos Garage.

Maserati Levante production starting next year Alfieri could come within 28 months
Maserati is on a roll. The new Ghibli and Quattroporte have been huge successes, and it unveiled the gorgeous Alfieri concept (pictured above) at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show. The next step for the brand is getting the Levante crossover into production.
"We are getting Mirafiori ready for production [of the Levante]. The first bodies are expected for 2015," said Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne to Reuters in Geneva. He also said that there isnt much keeping the Alfieri off the streets. "The platforms and motors are there. Technically, production could start in 24-28 months," he said. However, Marchionne refused to say whether the company would actually give the concept a green light to be built.
Fiat hopes to be profitable again by 2016, and while its acquisition of Chrysler is certainly going to help, rejuvenating Alfa Romeo and Maserati are also a major part of the plan. In 2013, the Italian luxury brand saw sales more than double to 15,400 vehicles. Maser is still far away from its goal of selling 50,000 units by 2015, but its quite a start. Fiat bought Maserati in 1993, but business went through a decade or more of doldrums and falling sales. It appears that the century-old brand is finally finding a path forward with some gorgeous new cars.

Kobayashi designs special edition Caterham Seven for Japanese market
News recently broke that Caterham is soliciting new investment to carry on with its ambitions plans. However, thats not keeping the sports car builder from moving forward with new projects. Case in point is its latest creation: the limited edition Seven 250R Kamui Special Edition in honor of its F1 driver, Kamui Kobayashi.
As the name implies, the Seven 250R forms of the basis of the special edition with 123 horsepower and 120 pound-feet of torque from its 1.6-liter Ford Sigma four-cylinder engine, six-speed manual gearbox and limited-slip differential. While power may seem modest, Caterham claims that it can reach 62 miles per hour in 5.9 seconds and a top speed of 112 mph.
What makes the Kamui Edition special is what Caterham does with the cars already light body. The exterior is finished in high-gloss black paint with matte black stripe decals, and the front fenders use dark-green-lacquered carbon fiber in a shade like the teams F1 livery. Tiny nubs of carbon fiber replace the windshield as well, and the passenger seat is gone in favor of an aluminum tonneau cover. For safety, a roll hoop rises up over the drivers head.
Things are even sparser inside. The driver sits on a bare carbon fiber seat with "Kamui" embroidered on the head support. The dashboard is made from similar green carbon fiber like the fenders and also has the Kamui logo at the center of the gauges.
Caterham will build just 10 of the Kamui Special Edition models, a nod to his driver number, and they will only be sold in Japan at 6,000,000 yen ($58,822) each, plus tax. Hopefully, this special Seven will fare better than the underperforming F1 team. Scroll down for the full announcement.
May 27, 2014 Written by Caterham Cars
Caterham Cars has taken the wraps off a brand new special edition Seven designed by Caterham F1 Teams Japanese driver, Kamui Kobayashi.
Just 10 examples of the Kamui Kobayashi special edition go on sale in Kamuis home country from today, priced at ¥6,000,000 (including local taxes).
Based on the 125bhp Seven 250 R, the distinctive special edition is packed with an array of performance-focused features hand-chosen by the Formula One driver. The Seven 250 R is powered by a 1.6 Ford Sigma engine, achieving 0-62mph in 5.9 seconds and a top speed of 112 mph. It has six-speed manual transmission with a limited slip differential.
The exterior is finished in high-gloss black paint with matt black sport stripes. Every Kamui Kobayashi edition wears a number 10 badge on its nose â€" Kamuis Formula One driver number. The front wings and rear wing protectors are finished in carbon fibre infused with a unique Caterham green lacquer, the first of the Seven models to offer this finish.
In true racing style, the car is a single-seater and features an aluminium tonneau cover over the passenger seat area; to match, there is also a single-sided rollover hoop fixed to the rear bulkhead, with all new 13-inch diamond cut black wheels. There is also a polished chrome rear exit exhaust system to complete the dynamic styling.
Inside, the performance theme continues with a carbon fibre dashboard detailed with the Caterham green lacquer, which will be personally signed by Kamui. The sports seat is also constructed from carbon fibre, with green contrasting stitching, a Kamui logo in the head rest and a green Takata-branded 4-point harness.
Other interior features include special Kamui gauge inlays, an anodised green gear knob with Kamui wordmark and an anodised green key.
Kamui drove a Caterham Seven for the first time earlier this year at Silverstone circuit, speaking about the special edition, he said: "For me, the Caterham Seven is a pure car; when you drive a Seven it feels like you are driving, not like the car is driving you. In my Caterham F1 car, I have electronics that control everything but to drive the Seven is to truly understand the car and to truly understand the enjoyment of driving.I hope my styling of the Seven adds something special to a car that is already awesome to drive."
David Ridley, Chief Commercial Officer for Caterham Cars commented: "Japan is our second-largest export market and our Japanese Caterham community are huge fans of Kobayashi; Im delighted to be able to offer our fans in Japan this exclusive model which will, one day, no doubt become a collectors item. Kamui had great fun customising the design and has even test-driven the first prototype to give his seal of approval."

Probe shows current GM VP Parks aware of ignition problem in 2005
New documents have revealed that a current General Motors vice president, Doug Parks, was aware of the ignition switch problems on the Chevrolet Cobalt as early as 2005. At the time, Parks, whom Bloomberg called a "confidante" of CEO Mary Barra and an integral part of GMs product development team, was the chief engineer on the Cobalt and Saturn Ion. Congressional investigators uncovered the documents, which include an email from Parks and meeting attendance lists for the ignition switch problems.
This new evidence sheds some doubt on GMs own internal investigation, which found that none of the companys current executives knew of the ignition switch problems on the Cobalt and Ion. This news is also curious, following GMs large-scale dismissal of employees found to be responsible for the problem, such as Ray DeGiorgio.
"As Ms. Barra has said repeatedly we have taken all of the personnel actions that we feel are appropriate at this time," GM spokesman Greg Martin told Bloomberg via email.
More troubling, though, is what this revelation could do to GMs legal proceedings. The discovery of Parks knowledge of the issue could cause potentially serious damage to GMs bankruptcy argument, in which it claims that "New GM" isnt responsible for the actions of "Old GM." According to Consumerist, lawyers could now argue that the lack of a recall, particularly when a former chief engineer and current vice president knew of the issue, could lend credence to arguments that the company was attempting to cover up the problem.

Report Brad Pitt to join Tom Cruise in Go Like Hell
Call us optimistic, but it seems that a golden age of racing movies could be upon us once again. After classics like Le Mans and Grand Prix gave way to cheeseballs like Days of Thunder and Driven, the past few years have given us the epic documentary Senna and the recent blockbuster Rush. And the next great racing movie could be speeding around the corner.
That movie is called Go Like Hell, a film adaptation of the AJ Baime book about the epic showdown between Ford and Ferrari at Le Mans in the 1960s. Just a couple of months ago we brought you news that Tom Cruise had signed on to play Carroll Shelby, and now the buzz on the streets of Hollywood has it that Brad Pitt has signed on as well.
Just what roll Pitt would play in the movie remains to be seen, but he was reportedly first approached about the project when Michael Mann was in the directors chair. Now that Oblivion director Joseph Kosinki has taken over, Pitt has reportedly signed on the dotted line.
