No iPad Pro or iPad mini 3 expected in 2014 as iPad Air is tipped for update
Apple’s annual iPad updates look set to be pretty lean this year, with latest reports suggesting that while an iPad Air refresh is on the cards, no iPad Pro or iPad mini 3 will be released.
Although multiple rumours of a larger, iPad Pro have circulated in recent weeks, industry analysts have now suggested that Apple’s 2014 iPad collection will consist solely of an update to the 9.7-inch iPad Air.
Speaking in a note to investors, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has suggested that claims of an iPad Pro launch will not be fulfilled this year, with Apple unlikely to launch a 12.9-inch tablet to rival the CES introduced Samsung Galaxy Note Pro.
Claiming Apple will focus its development efforts elsewhere, Kuo offered a bit of wiggle room, stating: “Even if it (a larger iPad) does make an appearance this year, shipments will be low.”
Despite the success of the iPad mini, and subsequent iPad mini 2 which launched last November with a new Retina display in tow, it has been claimed that Apple will not launch a third-generation 7.9-inch tablet this year.
While consumers will have to make do with the iPad mini 2 for a further 12 months at least, serial Apple tipster Kuo has claimed the iPad Air will receive a specs bump this autumn.
Targeting two easy areas of improvement, the analyst has claimed that the iPad Air will be upgraded to a new A8 processor and introduce the TouchID fingerprint sensor incorporating home button found on the iPhone 5S.
According to Kuo’s insiders, Apple’s reduced tablet efforts are being forced by the company’s push to finalise Apple iWatch hardware and software for launch later in the year.
He added that “unless more aggressive promotions are launched,” a lack of new models will see annual iPad sales drop for the first time.

Sony Xperia E1 launched as mid range audio focused smartphone
Sony has launched a new mid-range smartphone called the Sony Xperia E1, which it claims will be “the best in its class”.

Aiming to complement the high-end Sony Xperia Z1, the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean Xperia E1 smartphone focuses on its Sony Walkman heritage as it offers a 100dB speaker and 30 days free access to the Sony Entertainment network.
“Xperia E1 combines the best of Sony’s audio technologies with a premium design and great hardware to create a smartphone for people who want to express them out loud,” said Calum MacDougall, Director of Sony Xperia Marketing. “It’s a new, music focused player in our Xperia line-up that is underpinned by the best of Sony’s design, display and content offers.”
Sony Xperia E1 Features
The Sony Xperia E1 features a 4-inch 800 x 480p HD resolution display running Google’s Android 4.3 Jelly Bean OS.
It has a 1.2GHz Qualcomm MSM8210 dual-core processor with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage boosted by a microSD slot supporting cards up to 32GB.
In the rear is a 3-megapixel camera, offering 720p HD video recording and a 4x “smooth zoom”. It seems to lack a front-facing camera for any kind of video calling or selfie action.
The Xperia E1 brings back the dedicated Walkman button, shake to shuffle controls and you’ll get access to a free 30 day pass for Sony’s Entertainment Network music streaming service. It also comes pre-installed with the Sony Walkman app.
Weighing only 120g, the Xperia E1 has 3G, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity.
Sony Xperia E1 Release Date and Price
Sony says the handset will retail for €175 (£145), and will be released around the end of MWC 2014 in February. It will be available in black, white and purple.

Red Google Nexus 5 all but confirmed as press images leak

Having been the subject of countless rumours and multiple leaks in recent weeks, the red Google Nexus 5 has been caught on camera yet again, with press renders making an early appearance courtesy of the Twitter-based serial tech tipster @evleaks.
Being particularly blunt with its latest leak, @evleaks’ has accompanied the latest red Google Nexus 5 image with the simple statement: “Google Nexus 5, in red, by LG.”
According to leaks earlier this week, the red Google Nexus 5 will be officially unveiled next week, with retailers suggesting the vibrantly hued handset will be made available for purchase from Tuesday, February 4.
While the red hued handset has been the subject of multiple leaks and rumours, it has been suggested that Google could make its flagship Nexus 5 handset available in up to eight colours with the standard black and white options to be joined by orange, yellow, green, blue and purple offerings.
Aside from its different colour scheme, it is not believed that the new red Google Nexus 5 will differ in any way from the original monochrome options, with a 5-inch, 1080p Full HD display, quad-core processor and the company’s latest Android 4.4 KitKat OS.

Now youll never get any sleep! Pillow doubles up as a CHARGER so your mobile and tablet never loses power
If you just cant be without your phone or tablet, even when youre in bed, a pair of Canadian inventors have created a pillow that doubles up as a charger.

The Power Pillow comes with two portable batteries, and each battery is fitted with two USB ports capable of charging a phone and tablet at the same time.
Its makers claim each battery will charge an iPhone six times before it runs out of power, but will need to be charged for 10 hours to reach full capacity again.
The Power Pillow is aimed at people who watch films or TV, check emails, or read on their tablets and Kindles in bed.
It is the brainchild of Canadian inventor Geoff Martin who came up with the idea when he was speaking to his brother on the phone in bed and his battery ran out.
He started working on the project with his partner Lisa Sutt and they created various designs and prototypes.
The pair has now launched a campaign on Kickstarter and is hoping to raise $30,000 (£18,200) to fund the device.
The pillow is being sold for $79 (£48) for a pillow and one battery.
People who donate $124 (£76) will be sent a cushion, two batteries, and two micro USB cables.
Lisa, 37, from Nova Scotia in Canada, said: ‘Geoff and I were relaxing in bed when his brother Frank called: While he was on the phone with his brother he blurted out "why not have a pillow that you can directly connect your phone to for charging."
‘I was sitting next to him on the bed working on my laptop and thought it was a good idea, and we immediately started working on the Power Pillow.
‘We have gone through dozens of design drawings, dozens of batteries and over a dozen prototypes.’
The charging system comes with two 12000mAh battery packs, one is kept in the pillow along with a charging USB cable.
The other pack is charged separately via a wall plug.
When one battery dies, it can be replaced with the fully-charged pack so the pillow is never without charge.
Alternatively, the second battery can be carried in a bag or pocket and used to charge a device when out of the house.
Each lithium polymer battery in the pillow is lined with ExStatic fabric made with carbon nanotubes to offer protection against the voltage. They are also cased in a battery pack.
‘In a nut shell, Power Pillow will make running to an outlet a thing of the past,‘ continued Sutt.
‘Even with one per cent battery left on your phone, by simply plugging into the Power Pillow right beside you, you will extend your call for literally hours. The same goes for watching movies and playing games.’

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo officially unveiled as budget phablet
After countless leaks and endless rumours, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo has been officially unveiled, with Samsung Poland giving the budget phablet its first formal outing.

Although the Korean manufacturer had already reference the device by name in confirming it will not be made available in the UK, this marks the first official confirmation of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo’s specs sheet.
Stripping back the market leading powerhouse that is its flagship sibling the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, the Neo edition will drop from a 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor down to a more customary 1.6GHz quad-core offering.
A device which closer resembles the superseded Samsung Galaxy Note 2, the Neo drops from a 5.7-inch display back to a 5.5-inch offering, with the reduced Super AMOLED panel featuring just a 720p HD resolution. Further changes to the Neo’s form factor over the standard Note 3 see the device jump back up to being 8.6nn thick but drop a few grams to weigh in at 162.5g.
With 2GB of RAM and a 3100mAh Lithium-Ion battery in tow, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo spec sheet is rounded off by Google’s Android 4.3 Jelly Bean OS and an 8-megapixel rear-mounted camera that partners a secondary 2-megapixel snapper up front.
As with all of Samsung’s Note-branded devices, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo comes equipped with the company’s S-Pen stylus.
Although pricing has yet to be confirmed, Samsung has already revealed that the sub-specced phablet will not be making its way to UK shores.
